Need a Boost? Take a Walk!

Each week I provide a "word of the week" to the people in my Facebook group. This word is meant to keep them aligned, inspired, and challenged to always seek their goals and passions to achieve success. Well, this week was a little different. Instead of a word-challenge, I gave an action-challenge. And it's one I know you'll benefit from hearing, too!

Walk it out.

Yep, that's it. Walk. It sounds simple, yet on a scale of 1-10, how likely are you to take a walk? Even more so, how willing are you to take a walk when you need it most? The truth of the matter is we can lead some pretty action-packed lives. We're constantly on the go. The to-do lists can quickly become filled. And the next thing we know, the sun is going down and it's time to wake up and do it all again.

But what happens when you get frustrated and your day isn't going quite as planned? Or, you feel stuck and struggling to meet your next goal? This is where getting up, getting vertical, and taking a "power" walk comes in handy. You may be surprised at how beneficial taking a walk can actually be...

Taking a walk can help clear your mind.

When your mind seems to be cluttered and you feel like you can't think straight, that is a good indicator that it's time for you to walk it out. In other words, take a quick 10-15 minute walk, whether it's around your home, neighborhood, or at a local park. As you take this walk, focus on your immediate surroundings. Look at the trees, houses, or even spark a conversation with the people nearby. The idea is to rid your mind of bombarding thoughts that leave you stressed and overwhelmed.

Boost your energy levels by taking a walk.

Now we're talking about getting the blood flowing, which inevitably will jumpstart your body systems. Do you ever feel exhausted, or just dragged down by the day-to-day tasks in life? Walk it out! As you move, you'll naturally start to feel better. It's through this little bit of exercise that you'll give yourself a boost of energy. The next time you take a break from work, go for a walk. I bet you'll come back energized and ready to tackle the rest of the day!

A good walk can do wonders for your overall health.

It's often said that when you're not up to par, everything you do will be affected. This includes reaching your goals, staying motivated, and seeing the changes you desire in life. Taking a walk can help:

  • improve self-perception and self-esteem

  • enhance your mood and sleep quality

  • reduces stress

  • decrease anxiety and fatigue

All of these are major reasons to get moving!

Final Thoughts

As you go throughout your next week (and beyond), I want you to be intentional about taking walks. Start small and set a goal to walk just five minutes a day. Like I mentioned before, this can be a walk around your home, your backyard, or venture out a little further. The goal is to get moving and embrace the wonders taking a walk can do for you and your life journey. Then, push yourself to add a few more minutes until it becomes a habit. Use this time to meditate, connect with nature, or just clear your mind to refocus your energy.

I'm rooting for you! Let me know in the comments below that you accept this challenge to walk it out!
